Vivid Sydney 2015
Sydney lights up with motion, colour and music.
With the harbour bridge and Opera House, it can’t be argued that Sydney has one of the words best city backdrops. With the Vivid event kick starting, the city is lit up in excitement and showing off all it’s glory. Vivid Sydney is a unique annual event of light, music and ideas. This year the light event has become the largest public show of its kind in Australia. Included is the expansion to other key points and further up north in Chatswood.
The motion graphics industry is certainly growing in this area. A form of entertainment requiring the artist to draw their expertise to put on a great show. Understanding surface light movement on a grand scale, mixing in with colours and matching the sound to convey a narrative. It’s isn’t an easy task and I would assume it would require a lot of trial and error to get the light to shift through in correct notion. Putting on a good show is important because Sydney is on the global stage. Positive word of mouth stimulate the tourism market.
Overseas when I was in Tokyo, such lighting event was known as Illumination. It’s purpose was to lure people out during the freezing Christmas season. Climate hit around 6 degrees but the buzz and excitement still had me and my friends activity going out. What’s different between the Illumination and Vivid show is that the lights are not static in Sydney. The motion and sound makes the city come alive. It’s unique and with the insanely great harbour views, it’s very hard to top that anywhere else in the world.
Tell us what you think of this years light show.
