Best way to change your asset names in Google Web Designer (GWD)?

by Design SyncFebruary 18, 2019

It’s always good to have your files organised. This means keeping your imported elements in Google Web Designer (GWD) nice and clean. Often you can work faster, have a less chance of getting confused and allows other artist to jump into your files to work more efficiently in a team environment.

That being said there is a quick way to change your imported files in Google Web Designer (GWD) easily. You won’t even need to jump onto File Explorer or Finder to make changes and relink all your elements together.

GWD Change Asset Names

1. Already have your assets imported in GWD, go to the Library panel.

2. Double click on the file names as you would in File Explore or Finder.

3. You can now change the file name and this will automatically relink your assets.

No one by one manual relinking or coding required. However GWD will not allow you change the extension .jpg .gif .png or .svg as this will throw your assets out of sync with the code.
