Hisense 55P6 UHD 4K Smart TV review
Should I get a Hisense 55P6 UHD 4K Smart TV?
Recently I purchased a 4K Smart TV to complete my home office. A place where I can bash out concept ideas and to also chill when I had some downtime. I was fixed to a budget of under $1000 (AUD) and was after a Smart TV that had reasonable display quality and in some way had to look stylish. Yes being a geeky designer, you become finicky about the appearance of things.
Where I ended up tossing my buck was between the Smart TV brands Hisense (55P6) and TLC (E18US 55″). Sure there were many other great Smart TV names out there but these were the two that ticked most of the boxes within my set requirements. While this isn’t a direct comparison, I could go by what most geeks generally do and examine to death the technical spec and scanning through any related forum reviews I could find. On paper, personally, I thought the TCL had the upper hand with its tech and fancy number. However, the anticipation of getting a TCL swung around when I went to a few retail showrooms to make an upfront inspection. Walking up and down the Smart TV isle section of JB HiFi, my verdict came to the conclusion that the Hisense 55P6 had the better screen display. Side by side of the two models showing the exact same content, the Hisense 55P6 colours was a touch vibrant and showed less of the grain issue on an upscaled content. Sure each TV has its own variable display modes and contrast adjustment setting which can make my justification accurate. However, this was also noticeable at another store to visits at Bing Lee. Everything else on screen seems quite similar. It wasn’t that the TCL wasn’t good, it was, but from my in-store experience it just a shy away from what I anticipated. To wrap it up the Hisense does have a slicker metal frame appearance, which gives a sense of a premium look and feel at a reasonably budget TV. Also, the brand Hisense sounds a lot cooler, doesn’t it? Where my memory loss hasn’t taken into effect, knowing that TCL uses to make cheap electronic goods back in the old days. Definitely not the case today but my mind still has reminiscence of that era.
Like design and art, opinions can be subjective. Sometimes there is no right or wrong answer, just what you believe is right in your mind and what suits your desire. For me, the Hisense 55P6 is a winner that ticked most of my boxes.
I use my Hisense Smart TV for everyday purpose watching Netflix, Youtube, Playstation gaming and on occasionally watching DVD or Blu-ray. Here are some keys points to help make your judgment if you are looking to buy a Hisense 55P6 UHD 4K Smart TV.
Positive Points:
Affordable 4K TV in comparison to its main competitors such as the likes of LG, Samsung, Sony TV.
The metal frame makes it look modern and stylish, it’s actually real metal with plastic backing.
Visuals are sharp and clear with 4K content.
Simple to use menu interface with a quick button on remote directing to Netflix or Youtube.
Speakers sit on the base of the TV, sound great in a small room.
Stable plastic TV foot support coated in silver colour.
Has versa mount, for those who like to mount their TV onto the wall.
Support HDRI great for gaming mode.
Not too heavy to lift into the car booth and setup. (Ideally if you have a helper to set up is preferable)

Negative Points:
Screen quality looks a bit washed out when compared side by with an the
Sony and LG of similar models however better contrast to TLC (this could also be because of the variable setting modes).
Up-scaling non 4K content, can look blurry at times.
Motion lags is noticeable with fast pace movements.
Plastic black remote, does not look as premium as it’s upper models.
Has 3.5mm headphone jack but no Bluetooth support for wireless headphones.
Could not use the USB Bluetooth dongle for wireless keyboard or peripherals connection.
Can’t seem to add extra apps to the TV.
