How to remove thin white edge around a layer image Photoshop?
This isn’t a new feature in Photoshop 2019 but one that is very useful when you want to remove a thin white line around the edge of your image.
1. Select the layer you wish to remove the white edges around your image.
2. Go to Layer then Matting and select Defringe. (Layer > Matting > Defringe)
From experience Remove Black Matte or Remove White Matte doesn’t work very well.
3. The Defringe popup dialog box will appear. Adjust the Width pixel according to how much you would like the white edges to be removed and click OK. This is base on your resolution, the large your image the higher the value this number should be set.
4. You will now notice the white edge around your layered image will be removed.
If you can’t get the defringe tool working in Photoshop, an alternative solution is to use a contract selection hack. Note this method can sometimes dig into area of the image which may need minor retouching.
1. Hold down Ctrl and select the the layer you wish to remove the white edge.
This action will select the surround edge of the layer.
2. Go to Select, then Modify and choose Contract. (Select > Modify > Contract)
3. The Contract Selection popup menu will appear. Usually I keep this to 1 pixels however you can set the value higher if your image is higher in resolution and click OK.
4. Inverse your selection by holding down Shift Ctrl I or going to Select then Inverse from the top menu. (Select > Inverse)
5. Now press the Delete key to remove the selection.
6. Deselect your selection by clicking on the canvas.
7. You will notice the white edge has been removed.
