Google Web Designer (GWD) general banner ad rules to pass QA?

Before you jump into create your animated banner ads, it’s always best to understand the spec requirements. Especially when it comes to animating this can save a lot of time. As of current, below is the general rules for standard banner ads for Google Ads (formly named Goolge AdWords), Google Marketing Platform (formly named DoubleClick).

1. Make sure you are working to the correct banner ad size.

2. Work out how the banner ad will be published so you can set the right Ad Environment. Is it a Display & Video 360, Google AdMob, Google Ads or Non Google Ad? Learn more on GWD setup new banner ads.

3. You are allow to have a maximum of 10 files, this includes the index file and 9 files.

4. Animated gifs within the HTML5 banner ads most likely not accepted.

5. While you can use live type on banner ads, I generally choose to make this a graphics. This resolve fonts embedding problems.

6. The maximum time duration is 15 seconds and no looping is allowed on Google Ads.

7. You must have a border around you banner ad. This is a pixel black border which can be checked on in the publishing dialog box in GWD.

8. I don’t supply static images for standard banners however, Rich Media ads, must have a static image that is around or under 40kb in file weight.

9. When you publish your banner animation, check your compressed zipped file is under the required specs. I keep this under 150kb.

Use the validation information provided by Google Web Designer (GWD). This gives you an indication if it will past QA.
