How to use the transform tool in Photoshop 2019?

by Design SyncFebruary 9, 2019

If you have updated to Photoshop 2019 you will have notice the transform tool have changed. What’s wrong, the transform does not conform to the fix ratio when you hold down the shift key? Why Adobe has done this who knows? I might suspect it could be easier for future tablet users or people using track-pads. But then again who uses a track-pad to do Photoshop work. Yes, the new shortcut changes is very annoying and is tempting to revert back to Photoshop 2018. Before you do that, here are some of your solution to that Photoshop transform shortcut change.

The simple solution is do not hold down the shift key when you drag to resize your layer. However if the layer is a smart object the revers happens and you will need to hold down the shift key.

1. Select the layer you which to transform.

2. Ctrl T to place the layer into transform mode.

3. Pick the corner box and drag. Do not hold down the shift key like in the the previous Photoshop version as this will set the layer into a free transform mode. However if the layer is a smart object you will need to hold down the shift key like before.

Another solution to use the old transform shortcut in Photoshop 2019

1. Open a plain text editor like Notepad or similar app in Mac OS.

2. Type “TransformProportionalScale 0

3. Save the file as PSUserConfig.txt (make sure it is a txt file)

4. Do a search for Adobe Photoshop CC 2019 Settings and move to the text file into that folder.

The folder path should be along the line below for Windows and Mac OS:
AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2019\Adobe Photoshop CC 2019 Settings\

Version: Photoshop 2019
Type of application: Image Photo Editing Software
